4K Camera
JVC provided a glimpse into the world of ultra-high resolution imaging with a live demonstration of its KY-F4000 real-time 4K camera at NAB 2009.
Live images from the camera were displayed on JVC’s new 56" LCD panel with 4K
resolution. The compact camera features a single 1.25" CMOS image sensor of 3840x2160 pixels, capable of producing live images with four times the resolution of full HD. It features
HD-SDI Dual Link (4:2:2/10-bit 4-ch) and DVI Single Link (4:4:4/8-bit x 4-ch), along with a built-in genlock input.
Additional specifications include an RGB Bayer colour filter and switchable frame rate. The two-piece design of the KY-F4000 includes a compact, lightweight camera head at 3kg, which is ideal for pan and tilt mounting applications. The CCU processor can be separated from the camera head at a distance of 100 metres. Other 4K cameras on the market are primarily used for cinema applications that don't require live signal output.
These are typically processing at 24p to 30p, whereas the JVC camera offers the full 60p output with live transmission capability, making it the unique choice for many high-end applications, including computer-aided design, distance learning and teleconferences. The new KY-F4000 camera, along with a new 4K LCD monitor, are the latest additions to JVC's current 4K offering – the DLA-SH4K D-ILA projector.
The KY-F4000 camera will be available in spring 2010.
